Dear tuba world, For a long time I had the idea of publishing an exercise book with the best exercises for daily use. Corona and the consequential time off from playing now made it possible for me to put my ideas into practice. Many of the exercises you will find in this booklet have been with me since my student days and they have helped me a lot to improve my tuba playing on a daily basis. For me, the four most important points of practising and playing the tuba are: Sound in conjunction with air control, articulation and attack, slurs and flexibility, and last but not least endurance.
When practising daily, you should always work on one exercise from the four points mentioned. Remember the motto: daily practice brings embouchure I wish you much joy and success with the exercises. At this point I would like to thank my teachers and professors: Stephan Dornseifer, Johannes Leitner, Prof. Hans Gelhar, Prof. Hans Nickel and Prof. Ulrich Haas without whom I would not be the musician I am today. Thanks to the great support of other renowned tuba players from all over the world, I was able to complete this booklet. Many thanks for the trust and active support of all of my contributors: Øystein Baadsvik, Mike Forbes, Hans Nickel, Ulrich Haas, Walter Hilgers, Davide Borgonovi, Mike Roylance, Wolfram Krumme and the German Tubaforum e.V., Dirk Hirthe, Roger Bobo, Christopher Olka, Stefan Heimann, Stefan Tischler, David Muñoz Velázquez, Blechpresse Musikverlag, Magnus Hylander, Isabelle Roelofs (cover image) Marcel Boom (translation and layout) and my dear wife Sonja Ridder for their trust and active support. Many musical regards! Daniel Ridder
