The Summer Festivals are the highlights of the cultural year for all classical music enthusiasts. In addition to the well-established classics that offer great impressions and listening experiences for not only classical music fans, the musical performances also provide new inspirations for playing music. Here you will find an overview of the Summer Festivals 2023, including links to schedules, livestreams, and, of course, the corresponding sheet music!
Experience a festival house designed by the composer himself, perched on a green hill with unparalleled acoustics, along with the best Wagner singers of the present and the live Bayreuth Festival Chorus. Richard Wagner Parsifal Tannhäuser and the Singers' Contest at Wartburg
The Flying Dutchman Tristan and Isolde The Ring of the Nibelung
This year, a new production of Parsifal under the musical direction of Pablo Heras-Casado is on the program at the Green Hill. The staging is led by MIT professor of music and theater arts, Jay Scheib, introducing "Augmented Reality" to the festival house for the first time. You can experience the performance via BR Klassik's livestream on the traditional premiere day.
The Salzburg Festival will take place from July 20 to August 31 this year. Here you can find links to all the live broadcasts. We present some of the musical highlights along with the corresponding sheet music below.

At the Collegiate Church, old and new blend together. The Los Angeles Master Chorale, one of the leading professional choirs in the USA, performs Heinrich Schütz's "Musikalische Exequien" SWV 279–281 and Sofia Gubaidulina's "Sonnengesang" for cello, choir, and percussion. Grant Gershon conducts, with Julia Hagen on cello and Christoph Sietzen or Bogdan Bacanu on percussion.
Under the baton of Andris Nelsons, the Vienna Philharmonic performs Alban Berg's Violin Concerto, "To the Memory of an Angel," and Mahler's Symphony No. 4 in G Major featuring violinist Augustin Hadelich and soprano Christiane Karg.
Bohuslav Martinů's opera, premiered in 1961, about the Passion play in a Greek village and the arrival of refugees, is more relevant than ever and will be directed by Simon Stone under the musical direction of Maxime Pascal.
At the end of the festival season, the Vienna Philharmonic, with star pianist Igor Levit under the baton of Jakub Hrůša, will perform two special works by Brahms and Dvořák.
The festival in Glyndebourne is one of the most renowned classical summer festivals, including elegant picnics in the park. From the comfort of your home, you can also experience some productions through streaming.

The Verbier Festival, founded in 1994 and therefore still very young, in the Swiss town of Verbier is dedicated to supporting young talent: following the workshop concept, internationally renowned artists come together with emerging musicians.
At Verbier, pianist Yuya Wang will perform Rachmaninoff's music under the musical direction of Zubin Mehta with the Verbier Festival Orchestra. In addition, Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique will be performed! Follow the concert via livestream.
Under the direction of Daniele Gatti, with stars such as Lise Davidsen, Yulia Matochkina, Freddie De Tommaso, and Bryn Terfel, accompanied by the Coro dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Verdi's Requiem in Verbier could become one of the musical highlights of this festival summer!
The Lucerne Festival has been taking place since 1938, previously known as the International Music Festival Weeks Lucerne until 2000, and it attracts high-profile artists from around the world.
The Atenea Quartet, founded in Barcelona just three years ago, has already made a name for themselves at several festivals.
Anne-Sophie Mutter's ensemble "Mutter's Virtuosi" presents a special program ranging from Baroque to André Previn on the occasion of her milestone birthday. The ensemble will also perform the same program on August 24 at the Schleswig-Holstein Festival.
At the Bregenz Festival, the atmospheric lake stage will feature the Puccini opera Madama Butterfly, among other productions.
The Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival offers a phenomenal selection of concerts in 2023 featuring artists such as Mischa Maisky, Martha Argerich, Janine Jansen, Grigory Sokolov, Avi Avital, Sol Gabetta, Jan Lisiecki, Ivo Pogorelich, Benjamin Appl, Steven Isserlis, Sabine Meyer, Sheku and Isata Kanneh-Mason, Albrecht Mayer, Christian Tetzlaff, Anne-Sophie Mutter, and ensembles like VOCES8, The King’s Singers, the SIGNUM saxophone quartet, and ensemble reflektor.
Daniel Hope is the featured artist of the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival 2023. On the occasion of his 50th birthday, the world-renowned violinist and passionate music communicator will present a diverse program consisting of 50 events, ranging from chamber music to family concerts and literary-musical evenings.
