Jaroslav Zeman studied in Prague and conducted a number of the best military orchestras in what was then Czechoslovakia. Most recently he was director of the military music conservatory in Raudnitz an der Elbe. Jaroslav Zeman is now retired and has since then turned increasingly to composition and arrangement. Internationally, he is appreciated as a representative of "Bohemian music" and with numerous polkas, waltzes and marches has contributed to the substantial expansion of this special repertoire.
Jaroslav Zeman's most famous works to date are the gallop "Cyclone" and the fantastic concert polka "Prague Streets". With the "Louisa Polka", the former head of the Prague Central Orchestra succeeded in creating a great concert polka in its unmistakably typical style.
