Mauro Giuliani (Bisceglie 1781 – Napoli 1829) was the most important Italian composer-guitarist of the nineteenth century. He wrote three concertos for guitar and orchestra, many works for two guitars and numerous chamber pieces in which the guitar is effectively played together with other instruments. His works for solo guitar comprise a wide variety of genres, from the sonatas to the themes and variations, to the fantasias and didactic compositions (over 160 pieces among those: studies, exercises and lessons) which are to be considered the basic training for a guitarist. In his extensive production Giuliani has always demonstrated to be a brilliant composer showing a deep knowledge ot the technical possibilities of the guitar.
The enclosed CD contains the complete performance of all the works played by Giulio Tampalini.
