This first edition of Donizetti's piece for violin and harp is based onthe autograph, presently in the posseion of the Museo Donizettiano in Bergamo. The manuscript bears no title. Reasons of analogy justify naming the work a sonata. The original specification of instruments is found on the first page of the autograph: ViolinoArpa. The theme of the "Allegro Gallemberg" is to be found in No. 20 od the ballet La Tombe d'Ismaan by Wenzel Robert, Earl of Gallenberg (1783–139: Danse Générale avec les écharpes, dating back to 1823.
