Dances & Sonnets is a work in which 19th century dance and poetry meet. At the centre of the work are dances that were popular in the fishing ports along the Dutch North Sea coast and the former Zuiderzee. In the work they alternate with a series of poems that can be declaimed by one or more readers. The poems are accompanied by the wind orchestra's soft and hard-hitting music. For the performance of Dances & Sonnets, the sonnets or poems proposed by the composer can be selected in any language. A performance by Dances & Sonnets can also be enriched by a scenic implementation, but it can also be performed purely instrumentally.
