Christmas songs for children - sheet music and arrangements

Christmas is the feast of the child - and of children! And this is also reflected in the carolss, not only in the nativity play.

As early as the Middle Ages, with its emblematic mysticism, the custom of swaying children, in which a figure of Jesus in a cradle was sung with characteristic songs, developed especially in the surroundings of women’s monasteries. Martin Luther wrote his best-known Christmas song Vom Himmel hoch, da komm’ ich her expressly as a “children’s song for Christmas”.

In Romanticism, children, who until then were considered imperfect not-yet-adults, were given their own dignity, at least in art, because in everyday life the heaviest child labour is omnipresent. The glorification of childhood leads to Christmas carols that depict the idyll of carefree youth.
