Ernst Krenek was an American composer with Austrian roots. He was a student of Franz Schreker. In his first marriage he was married to Gustav Mahler’s daughter Anna. Krenek was extremely versatile in style and followed Schönberg’s twelve-tone technique as well as Stravinski’s neoclassicism. In the 1920s his jazz opera [Johnny spielt auf](https://www.stretta-music.com/en/author-ernst-krenek/) was a great success.
